How can I get to know my coworkers?
It is a good idea to connect not only with colleagues in your professorship but also to network with people in other disciplines. Look for special events organized for this purpose.
There are also regular meetings for non-professorial academic staff to which you will be invited via emailing lists.
Employees aiming for a doctoral degree can also network with peers at graduate school or university-wide events and activities. Taking part in in other activities outside your discipline, such as research lectures and seminars, at the beginning of the semester will also help you get involved.
As a research associate employed by Universität Hamburg you are part of the academic staff and have an active and passive right to vote for the University’s self-governing bodies such as the Academic Senate, the Faculty and Faculty Council, the Department and Department Council plus the respective committees. Become active yourself and support the elected representatives! They are always interested in a lively exchange with voters so they can best represent your interests. Furthermore, there are various teaching-related committees, for instance quality circles, that depend on the perspective of academic staff.
The WiSo Faculty is also planning to organize a monthly reception for new employees and a mentoring and/or buddy program.
