Committees and bodies
Faculty Council and Faculty Committee
Each Faculty elects a Faculty Council. Pursuant to Section 91 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG), the Faculty Council holds major responsibilities, including the monitoring of the Office of the Dean.
In the Faculty Committee, department spokespersons and the Graduate School director consult with the Office of the Dean and prepare rulings and resolutions on current faculty issues.
According to the Faculty's regulations, the members of each Faculty's Department elect a Department Council. The members of the Department Councils, who are elected by all the members of each Department, meet publicly at the University. For more information, consult the Departments’ pages:
A board comprising members of different groups (professors, students, academic staff, and technical and administrative staff) governs the Graduate School and, in particular, oversees the organization of the structured doctoral degrees.
The equal opportunity commissioner supports the Faculty in all equal opportunity measures, particularly in contributing to structural and staff decisions. They are to be involved in the development of equal opportunity directives, guidelines, and concepts.
The faculty information officer (FIO) closely cooperates with the Office of the Dean, providing advice, and, among other tasks, prepares strategic IT decisions.
At the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences, strategic IT decisions are prepared by the FIO in close consultation with WiSo-IT (the Faculty’s IT service). These are then discussed by IT management together with representatives of the Office of the Dean and, at the final decision stage, presented to the Office of the Dean. The Office of the Dean, the FIO, and WiSo-IT are committed to providing Faculty members with user-oriented, safe, efficient and future-compatible IT resources.
