Teaching—do I have to offer course evaluations?
Teaching evaluations are not obligatory. However, they can be helpful in many ways. Early career researchers, for example, can use them as evidence of their excellence in teaching.
Teaching evaluations, whether standardized online questionnaires, paper-pencil versions, or feedback sessions during a course, can help you establish how students perceive important aspects of your course and teaching method. Only the respective teachers can access the results. When using standardized online questionnaires, you will swiftly receive individual machine-generated PDF reports to ensure you can discuss the results with your students directly.
The academic office sends all teachers an email to their email address provided in STiNE at the beginning of every semester. This email contains all relevant information for conducting and processing evaluations in accordance with the faculty policy. Moreover, the Hamburg Center for University Teaching and Learning (HUL) offers guidance and comprehensive information about various quantitative and qualitative teaching assessment methods.
