Granting visitor scholar status
Research stays at the WISO-Faculty are subject to the following conditions:
The guest
- is for a limited period of stay at Universität Hamburg,
- carries out a self-determined, scientific activity which is connected with a concrete goal/purpose for research or teaching,
- has no employment relationship with Universität Hamburg, a faculty or other institution of Universität Hamburg,
- and typically carries out academic work in research and teaching at another university, a university or non-university research institution or other academic institution.
As a general rule, guest reseracher stays are only granted for a limited duration. The duration is limited to 12 months for doctoral students and postdocs and to 24 months for professors.
Please be aware that the application should be submitted four weeks before the beginning of the stay.

Application documents
Access the current application (in German) for visiting scholars. Please note that the application must be submitted at least four weeks before the beginning of the stay. Complete the application, obtain a signature from the department, and then submit it to the Office of the Vice Dean of Research at internationales.wiso@uni‑hamburg.de(internationales.wiso"AT"uni-hamburg.de). (internationales"AT"wiso.uni-hamburg.de)
If access to Universität Hamburg's IT is required, please enclose the application for a user ID with the application for visiting scholars. For further information, please refer to section VI of the application for visiting scholars.
For longer stays as a visiting scholar, the Office of the Vice Dean of Research will then draw up a Visiting Scholar Agreement that outlines the rights and responsibilities of the guest researcher for the duration of the stay.
