Examination regulations and subject-specific provisions (FSBs)

Your program is governed in particular by 2 regulations:

the examination regulations (PO) regulate overarching aspects of your studies and apply to all degree programs leading to a master of science degree in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences. The valid PO, amendments, and new versions are published on the Campus Center website.

The PO is supplemented by the subject-specific provisions (FSBs). These regulate, for example, the content, learning objectives, module details, and special features of teaching and examinations for your degree program. Different versions of the FSBs apply depending on when you start your studies. To find out which provisions apply to you, please refer to the information on validity on the Campus Center website. If you have questions, contact the degree program coordinator.

Special teaching formats

Open sessions: Open sessions are a specific type of seminar in the elective area that deviate in design from the more traditional seminar or lecture. The instructor selects current issues and new forms of interaction and prepares these together with the students according to their interests.
Doctoral track: A special seminar format in the third semester for students interested in research and who are looking to pursue doctoral studies after completing their master’s degree. Students develop a proposal for a potential future dissertation. The doctoral track is usually offered every second summer semester.

Study abroad

In this program, you can study for a semester at a foreign university. Ideally, the semester abroad should be planned for the third semester.

The international office in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences supports study abroad in other European countries, oversees the cooperation between the faculty's degree programs, and is the port of call for Erasmus+ scholarships. It also gives advice on exchange opportunities outside Europe through its faculty exchange program.
The Department of International Affairs manages collaboration with partner universities worldwide (central exchange).
If you would like to study at a specific university abroad that is not a partner university of the University of Hamburg, you can organize your semester abroad as you wish. Search for universities on the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) website. The international office in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences has a handout with information for guest students and gives advice on various providers who can help you organize.

Recognition and accreditation of coursework and examinations

If you have any questions about recognition and concluding a Learning Agreement, contact the program coordinator of the degree program in good time.

To receive financial support (scholarship), you still have to be studying when you apply for a scholarship.

Financing options for studying abroad

There are various ways to fund a semester abroad.

Erasmus+ for a semester abroad in another European country. Further information: faculty's international office
Hamburglobal, scholarship for a semester abroad outside Europe. Further information: Department of International Affairs
International BAföG: Due to the higher cost of living abroad, students who are not entitled to BaföG in Germany may be entitled to BaföG abroad. The International BaföG also covers tuition fees at the university abroad. Information: International BAföG:
various educational loans, e.g., from the Federal Office of Administration

Financial support for an internship abroad

The ERASMUS+ program also funds internships abroad. The prospects for financial support (€435–€555 per month, as of March 2019) are very good. Postgraduate internships abroad (graduate internships) are also funded via the ERASMUS+ program. Applications must be submitted before withdrawing from the University. Examinations board and quality circle

Quality circles are made up of teachers, students, and the program coordinator. They review the quality of academic affairs in one or more degree programs. Quality conference participants usually discuss the degree program once a semester and make suggestions for further development. The circles are chaired by the program director of the respective degree program.

Student applications to the examinations board must be submitted in writing to the program coordinator at least one week before the meeting.
