Anna Fünfgeld, post-doctoral researcher at the Chair of Sociology, in particular the social dynamics of ecological transformation, has been awarded this year's Arnold Bergstraesser Prize. She received the prize for her dissertation entitled ‘No Power to Change? Energy Hegemony and Trasformismo in Indonesia’.
In it, she analyses a possible transformation of Indonesia's energy industry, which is largely based on highly polluting coal. The dissertation shows how the energy transition in Indonesia is being prevented by political-economic structures, hegemonic discourses and repressive practices in the face of resistance.
The University of Freiburg and the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute jointly award the Arnold Bergstraesser Prize to promote young researchers. The prize is awarded for an outstanding dissertation in the social sciences that deals with political and social change in countries of the Global South in the tradition of Arnold Bergstraesser.
Further information on the prize can be found on the website of the University of Freiburg.
Anna Fünfgeld can be contacted via the professorship, at the GIGA, on Research Gate and on LinkedIn.
Congratulations on the award!
