Professor Geiger was invited to support Uganda Red Cross society in developing standard operating procedures and structures for disaster preparedness and management. During the three day workshop, new and revised procedures for managing emergencies have been developed which will now been implemented in the field. In the second part of the project which will start in 2019, feedback mechanisms to monitor the effectiveness of these structures will be developed and data on the implementation progress will be collected and analyzed. The project is a good example of a fruitful collaboration between and NGO and academic research that has both, rigor and relevance.
