Reading recommendations

This book provides readers with a very instructive read regarding the limits of growth. The two authors, both economists, challenge the traditional assumption concerning the need for growth in economics. They deal with the very relevant question as to how much growth is enough and what alternatives there are to traditional economic approaches.

This best-selling book authored by the renowned economists Acemoglu and Robinson is a must read to gain a better understanding as to why some nations succeed and others fail. Based on very instructive case studies (qualitative methods in economics – finally!), they argue that in particular the functioning of institutions is indispensable for the success of states. It thereby connects arguments from economics with institutionalism and organization studies to shed a different light on the emergence of states.

A very nicely written novel about the effect of globalization on individual lives. Alan, an old economy fossil is sent to Saudi Arabia to install a new IT system. Endless delays, a king who never shows up, and the unbearable heat in the desert provide a fantastic setting for studying the effect of modern economics and the way we create “value.”
