Registration for Winter Semester 2025/26
Registration for the courses and examinations of the Winter Semester 2025/26
The general registration phase for Winter Semester 2025/26 will take place from Monday 1 September 2025 9:00 to Thursday 18 September 2025 13:00. An overview of all registration phases for this semester can be found here: STiNE
Where do I have to register?
Registration for courses is only possible via STiNE and only during the registration phases. Participation in courses and examinations always requires an accepted course registration and a successful examination registration.
Am I automatically registered for an examination?
Yes, once you have accepted registration for a course, you are also registered for the associated examination. Only if you select "Date in a later semester" during the registration process will you not be registered for an examination.
Until when can I register for and deregister from an examination?
It is not possible to register for or deregister from examinations at any time, but only within certain deadlines. Find out about the applicable registration and cancellation deadlines at the latest after you have accepted registration for a course.
For written examinations, take-home examinations (THE) and oral examinations, you can register and cancel your registration up to 72 hours before the start of the respective examination. Example: The written or THE examination begins on a Monday at 10 am. In this case, students can deregister from the examination until 10 am on the preceding Friday.
For all other types of examinations (e.g. term papers, essays, project work or written assignments), the registration and cancellation deadlines may vary. You can find the deadline applicable to the respective examination under the menu item "My examinations" in your STiNE account and in the comments on the corresponding course.
Please note that the deadlines and regulations mentioned only apply to the WiSo Faculty.
Everything about your thesis
Every student is faced with the question at the end of their studies: What do I actually have to consider in order to register for my bachelor's or master's thesis? We would like to provide you with some key information beyond the formal part of the registration.
Before registering for your final thesis, you must find a supervisor with whom you can write your thesis. It is important that you have an idea about the topic. Always go to the supervisor prepared, if possible with a topic already in mind. Some supervisors may also offer topics that you can choose from and apply for.
There are different requirements for the actual formal registration:
- For degree programs of the Department Socioeconomics
- For degree programs of the Department Social Sciences (only in German)
- For degree programs of the Department Economics
We have created a checklist for you, which we hope will be of some help:
- Break down your working schedule into the following periods:
- Structure the results
- Read the literature carefully and make notes of relevant aspects
- Do literature research
- Submit the registration of the thesis to the responsible academic office.
- Determine the final topic together with the supervisor
- Visit your supervisor and discuss the thesis (we recommend to choose someone you already know from writing a term paper)
- Consider which examiner is suitable as a supervisor
- Check topics for their suitability and review the literature
- Writing period
- Revision period
- Coorection period
- Submit the Bachelor's or Master's thesis as 1 PDF file including the declaration of authorship for final theses to the responsible Academic Office (see details how to do so under the link above)
- Take time to recover
If you keep all of this in mind, nothing stands in the way of successfully completing your bachelor's or master's thesis.
We wish you much success.
