15 modules and a master's thesis
The master's degree program consists of 15 modules and the master's thesis, for which you have 6 months. To successfully complete your degree program, you must take and pass examinations in the compulsory and elective modules, in methodological principles, health and the health market, and in your specialization; there are also usually 4 examinations in selected courses in the management and economics module and the master's thesis.
The first semester is dedicated to the basics.
The master's program begins with general courses in which you refresh or expand your empirical methodological skills. You will also attend basic health-specific courses. In cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine, the program familiarizes students with the classification of illnesses and imparts basic health science knowledge of the most economically significant diseases.
In addition to learning about empirical methods and decision-making theory, you will also learn about the institutional structures of the health-care system.
You choose your specialization in the second and third semesters.
You can now develop your own profile in the following semesters. In the specialization area, you can take advanced elective courses in economics and business administration, each dealing with different aspects of the health-care system.
First your term paper, then your master's thesis
In preparation for the master's thesis in the fourth semester, you will write a term paper in the module on management in the health sector, which is an integral part of the program.
In the module on management and economics, you can choose selected courses from other master's programs in the Department of Socioeconomics, the Department of Economics, and the Faculty of Business Administration and expand your knowledge accordingly.
See the module handbook (PDF) for course descriptions. See the program guide (PDF) for a good overview of the program.
