ORGANIZATION IS EVERYTHING!
You can access all information you need to best organize your studies through the Service for Students section of the academic office. This page also provides you with a comprehensive overview of the services offered by the Socioeconomics Academic Office. Everything is organized by topic so you can easily find applications, forms, and contacts.
Regulations
There are 2 main regulations governing your program:
The examination regulations (PO) regulate overarching aspects of your studies and apply to all degree programs leading to a master of arts degree at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences. Find the currently valid regulations, as well as amendments and new versions, on the Campus Center website.
The subject-specific provisions (FSB) supplement the examination regulations and further specify the subject. They contain the module descriptions with regard to their content, learning objectives, teaching concepts, examination types, participation requirements, language of instruction, etc. (former module handbook) and supplementary explanations of sections in the examination regulations.Different versions of the provisions apply depending on when you start your studies. To find out which provisions applies to you, please refer to the information on validity on the Campus Center website.
If you have questions, contact the degree program coordinator.
FAQ credit transfers—postponing courses
I cannot see in which module I chose a course.
- In your course account, you will see which module your course is assigned to only once the grade has been entered in STiNE.
- In exceptional cases, you can contact your degree program coordinator during office hours
- Document your choice/registration/rebooking (e.g., using the checklist in your course guide). If you do not have the course guide, you can download it as a PDF from the program's website and print out the page or ask the degree program coordinator for a replacement.
I would like to move a course from one module to another.
Have you chosen a course through the wrong module??
- You move courses around during your degree program, so make absolutely sure that you sign up correctly. Check the latest status of your registrations during the changes and correction phase and make any changes yourself.
- Urgent changes can be made only with the degree certificate note automatically sent to you with the evaluation of your master's thesis (see the degree section on our website).
- Changes from the -> Interdisciplinary subject course module / advanced module (graduating classes up to and including 2017) to the -> elective area are fine.
- For graduating classes up to and including 2017: Changes -> from the elective area to the -> subject modules are more complicated. Enclose the possibilities for course assignments to specific advanced modules along with the certificate request for changes. You can find the documents / assignments on the syllabi for each semester on our website. You will also find the assignment to the disciplines of sociology and economics.
Courses are not assigned to any modules. How can I rectify the error?

Can language courses be credited?
Up to 6 ECTS CP (usually 2 courses) can be earned in the elective module regardless of the level and language.
I know that a course in another master's program is open, but it is not displayed.
There are courses from other master's programs, e.g., the Master of Arts in Sociology; the Master of Science in Politics, Economics, Philosophy; or the Master of Science in Economics open to the entire faculty. Some of these courses are offered only to first-year master's students. These can often not be selected during the STiNE general registration period, but only in the subsequent first semester registration period and in the changes and correction phase. In the AWG, no courses can be chosen exclusively by first-semester students, but the entire range of courses can be taken regardless of the individual semester.
Can I sign up for language courses for beginners? This cannot be booked via STiNE...
Yes.
A1 / A2 language courses are offered jointly by the University of Hamburg at the adult education center. These cannot be booked via STiNE (as of September 2019). Therefore,
- complete the electronic request form, which you can find in your STiNE account under "Studying/Study management/applications."
- Select the form "V WISO Faculty: application for recognition of achievements" and click "Start."
- Note that your application will not be processed if you use a different form.
- You should therefore submit a transcript of records with your grade and ECTS credit points to the MA in Labor, Economics and Society (Economic and Sociological Studies) degree program coordinator using the online application for recognition of external achievements.
