In her role as Senior Research Fellow in the REBUMAA project, Iris Seidemann participated from May 13th to May 16th in a knowledge brokering workshop in Nairobi, Kenya. The workshop, organized by the Climate and Development Knowledge Network in partnership with the CLARE Research-for-Impact Hub and the African Centre for Technology Studies, aimed to bridge the knowledge-to-action gap in climate adaptation and resilience research across Africa and the Asia-Pacific region. Discussions revolved around strategies for co-creating climate responses, improving communication techniques, and designing interventions for sustainable impact. The workshop concluded with an insightful field trip with SDI (Slum Dwellers International), highlighting the influence of community-driven initiatives in promoting grassroots climate adaptation.
During interactive sessions, participants delved into practical tools for translating academic research into actionable measures, engaging diverse stakeholders, and promoting behavior change towards climate resilience. Iris shared her experiences on co-creating community-driven anticipatory action approaches and led a session on bridging indigenous and scientific knowledge. The insights gained from the workshop will further contribute to generating impactful research within the REBUMAA project.
