Field work in Nigeria for the REBUMAA project
11. März 2024
Recent years have shown an increase in disastrous riverine flooding within Nigeria. In February 2024, Prof. Geiger, Dr. Seidemann, Samantha Sansone M.A., and Pia Geisemann M.A. accompanied the Nigerian Red Cross Society for three weeks for their on-the-spot visits of flood affected communities in Nigeria, within Ogun and Kwara states. The purpose of these visits was to select flood-prone communities that are egliable for the project and meet the selection criteria. This was accomplished through meetings with local leadership, focus group discussions with various community group members (women, men, youths, and persons with disabilities), and walks through the community. The collected data from this trip will be analyzed for the final community selection for the REBUMAA research project.
Current planning and preparations are underway for our second trip to Nigeria to continue working through the next phase of the project. It is our intention make multiple return trips this year to engage in the various activities led by the Nigerian Red Cross to deepen our understanding and insights.
