Together with URCS Professor Geiger and Lisa Harborth are studying the emergency response operation at the border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to prevent Ebola from spreading into Uganda. Since the WHO has issued a Public Health Emergency Alert of International Concern on 17th of July efforts are scaling up at the border point of entries. Due to still ongoing conflicts in DRC Ebola is still spreading particularly in the neighboring city of Benin. We are studying how URCS partners with other agencies and manages routines in a timely fashion in order to synchronize with the increasing demands. Since two weeks the team is at the border points and observes the operations of URCS and partner agencies. This will also lead into recommendations to improve on disaster preparedness and prevention for URCS. We are about to finish the first round of data collection soon and will return to the field at later stage.
