La Mutation Climatique.
Gouvernance, géopolitique, démocratie
Abstract:
We have crossed a threshold. The world we once inhabited no longer holds. The climate mutation, that slow yet violent recomposition of the conditions of existence, has become our new human condition. It dislocates the social fabric, when extreme events strike populations ill-equipped to absorb their force, or when poorly designed transition policies erode the very tissues of collective life they claim to protect. Climate change also interweaves, in more subterranean ways, with other crises: when petrodollars finance the machinery of disinformation; when wars accelerate carbon emissions while crowding out the attention a livable planet demands; when the arms race displaces the climate to the third order of political urgency. A polycrisis now constitutes the background condition against which the climate drama unfolds. It operates as a magnifying lens, rendering visible the growing inadequacy of our inherited institutions, forged in industrial modernity, the Cold War, or under the Pax Americana, when confronted with the entangled challenges of the present. The imperative, then, is to refuse enclosure: to hold together, within a single analytical and political frame, the ecological and the geopolitical, the social, the democratic and the planetary. This means taking full measure of our new human condition and, following the path that Bruno Latour opened, exploring what a genuine politics of landing — une politique de l'atterrissage — might look like for those who have, whether they know it or not, already touched down on a transformed Earth.
