Use of GAI in course-related examinations during studies (term papers, etc.)
For course-related examinations (term papers, written final project reports, take-home exams, etc.), clear regulations on the use of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) are recommended. Examiners should address and introduce the handling of GAI and the regulations at the beginning of the course.
When communicating with students, it is important to make it clear that an examination must always be an independent work. As an examiner, you should therefore discuss with them what constitutes an independent work.
Examiners can either a) prohibit GAI tools as aids in examinations or b) only allow certain GAI tools or c) generally allow GAI tools.
If the use of GAI tools is permitted by the examiners in the context of course-related examinations, the use of a declaration of authorship is recommended, which is submitted by the students together with the examination work: see Declaration of authorship for examinations during your studies [accessible PDF document]
The recommendations of the WiSo Faculty's working group for digital teaching and examinations can be found below. Please note that of the recommendations listed in the file, only 'Option A' should be used for both course-related examinations and final theses in accordance with the program directors of the degree programs of the Department of Socioeconomics:
