Household surveys and macroeconomic research based on survey data has gained strong interest in the last couple of years: The analysis of heterogeneity of expectations and economic behavior has become an essential part of the macroeconomic literature.
A research group at the University Hamburg – together with the CATI laboratory at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences – is investigating appropriate survey tools to gain insights into the interaction of expectation formation and household decisions on consumption and savings. The first results of a recent wave of the German country-wide household survey project will be presented to a general audience in Hamburg on October 6th , 2016 and will be accompanied by a subsequent expert workshop on methodological issues in using household surveys in macroeconomics.
The expert workshop will take place in Hamburg on October 6th and 7th, 2016. It will be split in sessions on
- Methodological issues of household surveys with a special focus on wealth, income, consumption and savings decisions as well as macroeconomic expectations
- Linking households’ expectations and their economic actions using survey data
- Macroeconomic research based on household survey data
- Presentation and discussion of newly available data sets or on-going survey data projects
each being composed of up to four presentations and an open discussion.
