The Center for Economic and Sociological Studies (ZÖSS) is an interdisciplinary research center at the University of Hamburg. Its fundamental characteristic is the close connection and interlocking of the two disciplines of economics and sociology. This connection takes place on both a theoretical and methodological level and is reflected, for instance, in the development of the socioeconomics of economics. With regard to the philosophical foundations, the ZÖSS is characterized by the aspects of plurality and critical research. Thus, the focus of the interdisciplinary research of the ZÖSS is on both reality and practical relevance.
Overall, ZÖSS promotes the interdisciplinary, critical examination of social issues through the publication of ZÖSS Discussion Papers and exemplary student papers as well as lecture series with different economic and socio-political foci. The ZÖSS is affiliated with the chair of Prof. Dr. Arne Heise and cooperates, among others, with the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, the Hans Böckler Foundation, the AK Plurale Ökonomik and the Fachschaftsrat Sozialökonomie of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg.
