Entry Requirements
To be admitted to MIBAS, you’ll need to meet the following eligibility requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree (at least 180 ECTS) in any subject
- Proof of English proficiency
- Completed coursework in business (15 ECTS) and research methods (12 ECTS)
Here, we’ll explain what these requirements mean in more detail. To learn how to document that you meet the requirements, see Admissions. You can also find answers to many common questions about eligibility in our FAQ.
Bachelor’s degree
A bachelor’s degree in any subject is required for admission. If you’re currently completing the last semester of your bachelor’s program, you can still apply and receive conditional acceptance. See Admissions for details on applying while completing your final bachelor’s semester.
Proof of English proficiency
The following test results are the only accepted proof of English proficiency and must be included with your application (where indicated, skill-specific requirements must be met for every skill):
- TOEFL paper or internet-based test (test date scores): 92 points with at least 22 points per skill (Listening, Writing, Speaking, Reading). "My Best Score" is accepted.
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: Overall Band Score at least 6.5, (Good Competent User), with at least 6.0 per skill
- Cambridge C1 advanced, C1 Business Higher or C2 Proficiency (previously known as CAE, CPE or BEC)
A completed degree taught in English cannot be accepted as proof of English proficiency. For instance, even if you did your bachelor’s degree in English, you still must submit results from one of the tests indicated above.
Your test result may not be more than 2 years old at the time of application.
You do not need to prove German proficiency.
Coursework in research methods and business administration
A prerequisite for MIBAS is the equivalent of 12 ECTS completed credits in research methods and 15 ECTS completed credits in business administration. Being enrolled in these courses currently is not sufficient – they must be completed at the time of your application.
Clearly highlight these courses in your transcript. In many cases, research methods may have been taught as part of a broader course. If this is not clear from the course title in your transcript, be sure to include course descriptions when submitting your application documents in STiNE.
Research methods courses typically encompass a range of topics including: statistics, empirical research methods, data analysis, data collection, econometrics, and game theory.
Please note:
- Ideally, the research methods courses you have completed should be related to the above-mentioned aspects of research methodology.
- (Bachelor's) Thesis, research projects and academic writing courses are not accepted.
- Solid mathematics, accounting, finance, and economics are not accepted unless they contain research aspects. Please make sure you upload an official course description in case you believe there are research methods aspects in your courses.
Business courses must include at least four of the following areas: business administration, accounting, financing, investment, marketing, management, controlling, HR, organization, information systems, production or taxation.
Please note:
- Only academic credits can be accepted, i.e. from a university (e.g. during your bachelor's studies, exchange semester, etc.).
- We cannot evaluate your previous coursework in advance of the application period. The selection committee will assess all applications after the application deadline.
- Professional experience does not fulfill the requirements.
