Certificates for Coursework and Achievements
Transcript of Records
Transcript of Records
If you need an interim certificate for all coursework completed to date, you are able to print your STiNE course account. If this printout is not sufficient as proof (e.g., if you are changing programs), you can submit an Application for a Transcript of Records (web form) to the responsible examination management to obtain an official overview.
- Only the courses you have passed are listed on the Transcript of Records.
- Bachelor’s students can obtain a Transcript of Records containing the details of outstanding ECTS credits and the anticipated degree completion date to apply for master’s programs.
- Please see the application for details of the processing time.
- You will be provided with an uncertified original copy of the Transcript of Records. The Academic Office will not provide any copies or certification.
- The signed original of the application must be submitted via one of the following channels: by post, by hand at the Service Point during office hours (Mon–Fri, 11 am–3 pm), or delivered to the mailbox outside the Socioeconomics Academic Office (Von-Melle-Park 9, Entrance A, 20146 Hamburg).

- You will receive the following transcripts and certificates:
- proof of completed exams
- degree certificate
- Diploma Supplement
- Transcript of Records
- and a Certificate of Extracurricular Courses and Achievements (if applicable).
- Depending on your program´s examination regulations, you may also receive an English translation of your transcripts and certificates.

For example: if your bachelor´s thesis is your final examination, the (actual) date of submission will be used as the official completion date of your studies. All documents also display their date of creation. The number of subject semesters required for the degree program is not documented explicitly. The documents do state when you completed each achievement, however. - Failed examinations, incomplete courses and modules, and failed attempts will not appear on your transcripts and certificates.
- Your Certificate of Extracurricular Courses and Achievements will list any additional achievements that are not part of your degree. These include:
- any successfully completed courses from your own degree program that exceed the required 180 ECTS credits (bachelor´s) or 120 ECTS credits (master´s); in your certificate application, you can specify which courses you want listed here.
- courses that cannot be credited towards your own degree program, such as IT courses offered at the Regional Computing Center (RRZ), language courses that cannot be credited towards your own degree program, courses offered by the Universitätskolleg;
- The certificates for the MA in Human Resource Management and the MA in Labor, Economics and Society (Economic and Sociological Studies) also document any additional courses you may have had to take as a condition for admission to the program.
- The proof of completed exams does not list your ECTS credits. They are listed on the Transcript of Records instead.
- The Transcript of Records and Diploma Supplement are signed by the chair of the examinations board. The degree certificate is signed by the dean.
Issuance and receipt of the transcripts and certificates
- After you complete all examinations and obtain your results (published in STiNE), you receive an application form to request your transcripts and certificates. Complete and send this to the competent examination management team by mail (not email).

- Withdrawals are not initiated automatically. Contact the Campus Center for information about the process.

Duplicates replace original supporting documents (certificate, final record of grades, transcript of records, diploma supplement). They are issued upon formal request if the originals can no longer be found or if they have been lost or destroyed. A duplicate can be issued only if you can compellingly demonstrate that the requirements for a request have been met (irrevocable loss, destruction, etc.).
There is a fee for replacement documents in accordance with the fee guidelines for special services at Universität Hamburg (€10–40 per document, max. €75 total).

The duplicate must be clearly marked as such and may not deviate from the original (changes of name, for example, will not be taken into account). Duplicates bear the date of the day on which they are issued.
Creating a duplicate can take a minimum of 6 weeks.

Enrollment and Withdrawal
Enrollment is a prerequisite for studying at University of Hamburg in accordance with Section 2, subsection 1 of the Enrollment Regulations (Immatrikulationsordnung der University of Hamburg). This also includes registering for examinations and taking examinations (including submitting your final thesis).
Your university username (B-Kennung) and thus your access to STiNE, the use of your university email account to submit your final thesis or contact the Academic Office, and the submission of online applications are dependent on enrollment.
Enrollment is therefore mandatory at least until you submit your final thesis or take your last examination. We recommend that you remain enrolled until the final assessment is published in STiNE. Late semester reenrollment is possible against payment of a fee in order to be able to register for a repeat examination if necessary.
Contact the Campus Center for information about semester reenrollment and withdrawing.

You require certified copies of your transcripts and certificates (certificate, final record of grades, transcript of records, or diploma supplement) or other documents you have received in the course of your studies? For this, you need to contact the responsible registration office. Which registration office is responsible in your case depends on your address of residence. In Hamburg, you can obtain certified copies of your documents at the City’s customer service centers (Kundenzentren).
