Jörg Bibow, Professor für Wirtschaftswissenschaften am Skidmore College in New York, hat als erster Wissenschaftler den Ruf als Senior Research Fellow an den Fachbereich Sozialökonomie erhalten.

Prof. Bibow ist monetärer Makroökonom mit ausgewiesener Expertise in den Bereichen Zentralbankwesen und Finanzsysteme, internationale Finanzen, Handel und Entwicklung, europäische Integration sowie Geschichte der Wirtschaftstheorie. Während seine frühen Forschungsarbeiten vor allem der Geldtheorie gewidmet waren, hat sich sein Schwerpunkt im Laufe der Zeit stärker auf angewandte ökonomische Fragestellungen verlagert.

Prof. Bibow kooperiert insbesondere mit Prof. Heise im Rahmen des Forschungsprogrammes des Zentrums für Ökonomische und Soziologische Studien (ZÖSS).

Senior Research Fellows wurden 2025 im Rahmen der neuen Internationalisierungsstrategie der Fakultät etabliert, um die internationale Forschungskooperationen systematisch zu erweitern und langfristig zu fördern. Senior Research Fellows können auf Antrag an Personen vergeben werden, die eine Lebenszeitprofessur an einer Universität im In- oder Ausland innehaben und mit denen eine sehr gute Zusammenarbeit im Rahmen der fakultären Forschungsschwerpunkte besteht.

Jörg Bibow, professor of economics at Skidmore College in New York, is the first scientist to be appointed Senior Research Fellow at the department of socioeconomics.

Prof. Bibow is a monetary macroeconomist with proven expertise in central banking and financial systems, international finance, trade and development, European integration, as well as the history of economic theory. While his early research focused primarily on monetary theory, his focus has shifted over time to applied economic issues.

Prof. Bibow cooperates in particular with Prof. Heise within the research program of the Zentrum für Ökologische und Soziologische Studien (ZÖSS).

Senior Research Fellows were established in 2025 as part of the faculty's new internationalization strategy to systematically expand and promote international research collaborations in the long term. Senior Research Fellowships can be awarded upon application to individuals who hold a tenured professorship at a university in Germany or abroad and with whom there is excellent cooperation within the framework of the faculty's research priorities.
