Studying at the University of Hamburg without Abitur
Studying at the University of Hamburg without a traditional high school diploma (Abitur)? Passing our entrance examination qualifies you to apply directly to the Bachelor’s program in Socioeconomics — without any detours. For more than 70 years, together with our predecessor institutions, we have been providing accessible pathways into higher education for people without Abitur.
If you want to understand how economic and social processes work — and how they can be actively shaped — and are interested in issues related to work, politics, and social justice, then the Bachelor’s program in Socioeconomics offers exciting perspectives and many opportunities to get involved.
In this program, 40% of all places are reserved for applicants without Abitur. We firmly believe that your experience — whether gained in the workplace, through caregiving, or in raising children — provides a valuable foundation for a successful academic journey.
Please note that the Bachelor’s program in Socioeconomics is taught in German. Although no language certificate is required to register for the entrance examination, a B2 level of German is essential.
Further information (in German) is available here.
The University of Hamburg is committed to supporting people who have been forced to flee their home countries and whose academic paths have been interrupted. Through various initiatives, the university aims to facilitate their re-entry into higher education. Further information is available under #UHHhilft — University to Help Refugees.
