Reasonable Accommodations for Exams
Reasonable accommodations support students with long-term health impairments, including long-term physical and psychological illnesses, specific disorders, autism spectrum disorders or other neurodivergent conditions, as well as motor impairments and seeing, hearing, and speech impairments. These measures are intended to ensure that examinations can be taken under fair and appropriate conditions. If you would like to apply for reasonable accommodations, please follow these steps:
1) Contact and advising
Please first contact the Office for Students with Disabilities. The Office provides confidential support and information about possible reasonable accommodations. If you are eligible, the Office will issue a recommendation for specific reasonable accommodations. For international students, this recommendation can also be issued in English. This recommendation is valid for a defined period of time and serves as the basis for the formal application (see step 2).
2) Submit your application
Please send the recommendation from the Office together with the application form by email to the program coordination of your study program. You will then receive an official notification from the chair of the examination board. This notification lists the approved reasonable accommodations and specifies the period for which they apply.
3) Provide the notification to your examiners
Please present this notification to the relevant examiners at least three weeks before the respective examination date so that the accommodations can be implemented in time.
Important deadlines
Applications for reasonable accommodations must be submitted in good time before the examination periods:
- Summer semester: by 15 May
- Winter semester: by 15 December
If an application is submitted after these dates, timely approval before the first examination period of the semester cannot be guaranteed.
