Registering for courses and seminars
If you would like to take a course in the Department of Economics, you must register via STiNE.
If possible, please register during the first registration period. Only then can we ensure that you will obtain a place in your required courses. Please note that the registration period is different for first-semester courses.
Please note that it is only possible to register for seminars in the BSc in Economics during the first registration period.
When registering for lectures with several practical courses or for seminars in the BSc in Economics, you should list as many of the practical courses / seminars as possible as preferences. This increases your chance of obtaining a place in a suitable course. If you list too few preferences, you may be dropped during allocation rounds and end up not being placed in any course.
Withdrawing from courses
If you decide not to take certain courses, you can withdraw up to the last day of the changes and correction period. This does not apply to introductory and specialization area seminars. The de-registration from these seminars are only possible during the first registration period. Please make sure to cancel your registration so that another student may obtain the place.
Registering for examinations
If you would like to take a module or partial module examination, you must complete a binding registration in the registration periods posted by the academic office.
For each module or partial module examination in the Department of Economics, two examination dates are offered at the end of the courses. The first examination date is at the end of the lecture period, and the second examination date is at the end of the reading period, shortly before the beginning of the following semester.
For courses offered by other departments, there may be different procedures. For courses in the Department of Socioeconomics, for example, generally only one examination date is offered at the end of the semester. However, these courses are usually offered every semester, which means that there are two examination dates per year.
Please note that automatic registration for examinations is NOT possible in the Department of Economics. Even if you would like to repeat an examination, you must register for the examination on your own via STiNE.
Students minoring in economics should note that technical problems occasionally occur during the registration process (especially for the second date) due to some differences in exam regulations for the major and the minor. In this case, please contact the Academic Office in the Department of Economics within the regular registration periods.
Withdrawing from examinations
It is possible to register or withdraw from examinations up to 72 hours before the respective examination.
Example: If the exam takes place on 8 February from 10:15 am-11:45 am, you can (de-)register for the exam until 5 February, 10:15 am.
Please note that this regulation does not apply to exams for which no exam date is defined in STiNE (e.g. term papers). The registration and cancellation of exams without an exam date in STiNE is only possible during the course registration periods.
After instructors have entered the results for the first examination date, students who want to take the exam on the second date must register via STiNE no later than seven days before the second examination date. You will not be automatically registered for the second exam date.
Please note: You have three examination attempts per partial module. If you do not cancel an examination date and do not take the examination, the attempt will be marked as failed (5.0)
For students who commenced their studies before winter semester 2014/15, different regulations regarding the permissible number of examination attempts may apply. If you have any questions, please contact your degree program coordinator.
If you were not able to register or withdraw due to circumstances beyond your control and have proof of this, please speak with your degree course and examination manager.
