Freemover
As a “freemover,” you organize a stay abroad yourself rather than applying for a semester abroad at a partner university via Erasmus+, faculty or central exchange. This allows you to attend the University of your choice.
At certain universities, you must pay a tuition fee for the program during your time abroad and you are also still required to pay your semester contribution at Universität Hamburg. Coursework and examinations you complete as a “freemover” at a university abroad can be credited to your studies at Universität Hamburg as long as they are compatible with your program. Good preparation and close consultation with your degree program coordinator prior to your stay abroad is therefore important.
To apply to a university as a “freemover” make direct contact with the program you are interested in or the international office of the university you wish to attend. Many international offices of universities abroad provide information for “freemover” or “visiting students” on their websites.
