Universität Hamburg is one of the strongest research universities in Germany. As one of only 10 universities in Germany Universität Hamburg has recently been awarded the status of a University of Excellence by the German Council of Science and Humanities. The graduate program is keyed to several collaborative research projects with participation of researchers in the graduate program.

CliCCS

The Excellence Cluster “Climate, Climatic Change, and Society (CliCCS)” belongs to the university's core research area “Climate, Earth and Environment”. It is concerned with the analysis of societal, political, cultural and economic dynamics of climate change, which is a natural application of collective decision-making.

DEMOS

DEMOS (Democratic Efficacy and the Varieties of Populism in Europe) is a research project aiming at better understanding populism. Funded by the EU Horizon 2020 Framework Programme, the project is carried out by 15 partner institutions in Europe and involves 10 disciplines.

Need-Based Justice and Distribution Procedures

The DFG research group “Need-Based Justice and Distribution Procedures” studies the mechanisms societies use to decide on deservingness and needs based redistribution. The research group is a collaboration with other universities in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
