Anita Engels appointed to the Climate Advisory Board of the Hamburg Senate

Member and former Executive Director of the CSS, Prof. Anita Engels has been appointed to the Climate Advisory Board of the Hamburg Senate as one of 15 scientists from various disciplines in the fields of climate protection and adaptation to climate change.
The Climate Advisory Board advises the Senate as an independent scientific body on the implementation of the Hamburg Climate Protection Act and the Hamburg Climate Plan. In addition, it is to provide impulses in the field of climate policy. The establishment of the committee was decided on the basis of the Hamburg Climate Protection Act. The constituent meeting of the Climate Panel with the participation of Hamburg's Senator for Environment and Energy, Jens Kerstan, took place at the end of April 2021.
The Board will takle the following tasks:
- Providing content-related support and expert advice to the Senate and the administration on issues of Hamburg's climate policy, in particular with regard to the implementation and further development of the Hamburg Climate Plan.
- Development of recommendations for action
- Advising in decision-making procedures concerninmeasures for climate protection or adaptation to climate change
- Assessment of the paths taken for climate protection and climate adaptation and their implementation with regard to the achievement of objectives
- Development of new proposals in climate-relevant areas for additional measures and, if necessary, further targets
