CSS member Dr. Ali Aslan publishes a guest commentary in the reknown newspaper "Süddeutsche Zeitung" (SZ) on the need for technology and entrepreneurship in these trying times - even if this poses a paradoxical danger.
How can companies not only survive this crisis, but also learn from it and develop? How can companies in a crisis quickly and creatively bring about valuable and at the same time valuable change? Entrepreneurs have three key options for dealing with the current situation. They can adapt products, they can develop innovative new business models, they can create new companies. However, good entrepreneurial activities are not a panacea and bear the risk of crowding out civil society or political initiatives.
It is therefore necessary, argues Dr. Gümüsay, to see entrepreneurial initiatives as complementary rather than as substitutes for politics and civil society - and to help shape their value framework. Their creative creative power should consequently be used and shaped to find ways out of the COVID-19 crisis. Both entrepreneurship and digitalization should be promoted and used in a more inclusive and diverse way. In this crisis and beyond.

AI and politics: Future technology "Made in Germany"?
For further input concerning the field of Artificial Intelligence and Innovation, you can find an interesting video recording of a discussion between Dr. Ali Aslan Gümüsay and Daniela Kolbe (MdB/SPD and Chairwoman of the Commission of Inquiry KI), hosted by the author Katharina Heckendorf here in the mediathek of the Körber Stiftung [in German].
The German government's national AI strategy will be two years old in November 2020. What is the political and economic assessment we can make and how does Germany perform internationally in the field of artificial intelligence? What can Germany learn from other countries and what role does civil society play alongside research and industry? Find some answers to these questions by watching the video!
