CSS members Prof. Dr. Stefan Aykut and Prof. Dr. Antje Wiener and colleagues Prof. Dr. Elvira Rosert (Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy, IFSH), Prof. Dr. Anna Holscheiter (TU Dresden) and Prof. Dr. Tanja Klenk (Helmut Schmidt University, Hamburg) are discussing what has been achieved and what has not been achieved by the United Nations as well as their future prospects.
The discussion takes place in view of the 75th anniversary celebrations of the United Nations this year. But 2020 is also the year in which the corona pandemic and the resulting intensification of conflicts between the United Nations and China on the one hand and the United Nations and the United States on the other will present the organization with major challenges. The focus is on three fields of action of global governance: health, climate and security. The questions being discussed are how the problems in the three fields differ, where they overlap, and why states are apparently acting more quickly in the corona crisis than, for example, in the climate crisis.
Stefan Aykut takes part as an expert on international climate policy, Antje Wiener is one of the hosts of the German Political Science Association (DVPW).
Since 2019, the DVPW has been organizing the lecture series "A conversation with Political Science", which is primarily aimed at journalists and the interested professional public. Due to the Corona pandemic, the board of directors decided to record the current events and make the videos available on Youtube.
You can find the recorded event here. [in German only]
