The large-scale project "Ariadne" funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is intended to provide scientific support for the German energy transition. CSS member Prof. Dr. Grischa Perino from the Department of Socioeconomics and the Cluster of Excellence "Climate, Climatic Change, and Society (CLICCS)" will examine European emissions trading and its effects on national policy in a sub-project. He will receive funding of around 330,000 euros over three years.
The effects and interactions of emission regulation are examined on the basis of theoretical analyses, i.e. with mathematical models. The research team will work empirically on the development of the regulations and, among other things, conduct surveys among the population. The team also intends to work with economic experiments: Certain variables in the survey will be specifically varied in order to understand, for example, the role of certain information in opinion formation. In addition, it is planned to talk to political decision-makers as well as to people who are directly active in this field and advise politicians.
"Ariadne" is a very large, interlocking project. The aim is to arrive at scientifically sound recommendations for policy-makers - and to discuss these with civil society and with decision-makers in business and politics.
