Funding decisions have now been made in Germany’s Excellence Strategy: The Excellence Commission, consisting of the members of the international Committee of Experts and the research ministers of the federal and state governments, approved 57 Clusters of Excellence to be funded from among the 88 proposed projects.
Among the four projects approved for Universität Hamburg is the Cluster “Climate, Climatic Change, and Society”. The researchers of the cluster will investigate how climate changes and how society changes with it, thereby feeding back on climate. The central research goal of the Cluster is to identify possible and plausible climate futures. Around 230 scientists from 15 disciplines (i.e. Oceanography, Meteorology, Sociology, Economics and the Humanities) will collaborate to achieve this goal.
Participating institutions in addition to Universität Hamburg are the Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, the German Climate Computing Center and eight further scientific organizations.
Anita Engels is Co-Spokesperson for the Cluster and thirteen other members of the CGG are involved as Principal Investigators (PI), Project Chairs or Participating Researchers! Involved CGG members are Stefan Aykut, Alexander Bassen, Michael Brüggemann, Timo Busch, Anke Gerber, Christine Hentschel, Katharina Kleinen-von Königslöw, Stefanie Kley, Andreas Lange, Grischa Perino, Simone Rödder, Kai-Uwe Schnapp and Antje Wiener.
