Dr. Oliver Geden, guest of the Centre for Globalisation and Governance and Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, will appear as an expert at a press briefing concerning the release of the IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5ºC on Wednesday, 26 September 2018 in Berlin.
The Special Report summarizes the state of research on politically and scientifically complex issues relating to the 1.5 degree target on more than 200 pages. It will be published on 8 October 2018. Experts will inform press representatives in advance about the scientific background at a press conference (“Climate Breakfast”) hosted by the Deutsche Klima-Konsortium (DKK). The CGG is a member of DKK.
At the Climate Breakfast, experts will provide information about the conditions under which the special report was produced and its significance. They provide background information on the consequences of climate change if the temperature rises by 1.5 degrees compared to 2 degrees Celsius and explain some of the key topics and concepts assessed in this report - such as overshoot, emissions budgets or negative emissions.
Further experts answering questions at the Climate Breakfast are Dr. Katja Frieler, Deputy Head of the Climate Impact and Vulnerability Research Unit at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and Dr. Christiane Textor, Head of the German IPCC Coordination Unit.
On the DKK website you will find an overview of the planned reports of the sixth IPCC reporting cycle and the participating researchers from our member institutions (click here) [only available in German].
