IndiCon - Integrative control of visible and invisible colleges: Configurations of performance indicators in science
Overall goal of the joint project is the development of configurations of different performance indicators for integrated control of visible and invisible colleges. With this focus, we pursue three goals: First, we want to define integrative configurations of existing and new indicators that are generally suitable to achieve intended effects and to avoid control paradoxes such as unintended effects. Second, we want to combine the configurations to sets of indicators and design them so that they are compatible with existing proven indicators in research, teaching and administration (indicator-fit). Third, the configurations should be compatible with strategies, structures and processes (design-fit).
Scientific work objectives of the research project are:
Scientific work objectives of the research project are:
- the behavioral explanation of functions and dysfunctions of performance-oriented control methods and thus a micro-foundation of university governance research;
- the theoretical re-conceptualization of the performance concept in science through reflection on the importance of invisible colleges in scientific innovation processes;
- the empirical analysis of interactions between visible and invisible colleges and the derivation of integrative configurations of performance indicators for science.
