Together with 50 participants from universities in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, Dr. Susanne Rhein and Frederik Schmitz took part in the “Experiments for the Environment” (X4E) Workshop on 19 and 20 March 2026. This year’s workshop was hosted by the Center for Climate Resilience at the University of Augsburg.
The aim of the workshop series is to provide a platform, particularly for early-career researchers, to present and discuss findings and experimental approaches, and to advance the use of experiments in environmental economics. The programme included presentations on agriculture, energy, climate policy, mobility and air pollution, cooperation and coordination, as well as decisions and preferences. It also featured interactive poster sessions and a panel discussion with editors of leading journals in environmental and resource economics. The programme was complemented by a guided tour of Augsburg’s historic old town.
Our colleagues presented two studies in a poster session: one on the effects of dissatisfaction with climate policy measures on the demand for disruptive system change, using the German coal phase-out as an example, and another on the planning horizon of market participants’ behaviour in the EU ETS.
