Dr. Zachary Turk is a Postdoctoral Researcher (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) at the Chair of Environmental Economics since July 2025. His research involves environmental and public economics, focusing on the relationships between inequality, economic growth, and sustainability policy. He also has a strong interest in applying non-market valuation methods and causal inference approaches in support of environmental and socioeconomic policy development.
Dr. Turk earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Economics from the London School of Economics in 2021, following Master’s degrees in Environmental Science (Yale, 2017) and Agricultural and Resource Economics (University of California at Davis, 2015), and a Bachelor’s in Business Economics (Boise State University, 2014).
Before joining UHH, he held research positions at University College Cork (Ireland), Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research (New Zealand), and the University of Rostock, and has consulted for institutions including the World Bank, the World Wildlife Fund, and the International Seabed Authority.
Dr. Turk’s work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals and policy reports for international and national agencies. His current projects include developing a national net-zero monitoring framework and advancing methods to integrate equity considerations into growth policy.
Dr. Turk welcomes prospective students interested in thesis supervision at all levels (Bachelor’s, Master’s, Ph.D.).
