Term papers and final theses
On these pages, we explain what is important for writing term papers, bachelor’s theses, and master’s theses.
We typically provide all the essential information for writing term papers during the first seminar sessions at the beginning of the semester. Please also note the formal and contentwise requirements that we have summarized in the guidelines for term papers and final theses. You can find the guidelines as a PDF in the download section on this page.
Below, you will find all the information regarding the process of writing final theses. We aim to ensure all candidates have solid methodical skills and profound knowledge enabling them to successfully complete their thesis. We are convinced that acquiring basic methodical skills is helpful for preparing academic papers but will also prove beneficial to our students in their future professional life.
Procedure for writing a final thesis
1. Choosing a topic
We supervise topics from the fields of strategic management and business ethics (CSR). In the download area on this page, you can find a current overview of topics, listing possible thesis subjects and the respective supervisors at our Chair. Additionally, you can propose your own topics.
Currently, we have limited free supervision capacities.
2. Contacting us
Please contact the person responsible for coordinating theses at our Chair or directly email the supervisor at our Chair who is in charge of the specific topic from the overview of topics you are interested in. Contact details are included in the overview of topics (available in the download section on this site). Please send us:
- your curriculum vitae
- the exact period in which you intend to write your final thesis
- your topic suggestion (own topic or from topic overview)
We will get a first impression of your interests and may check our internal mentoring capacities.
3. Preliminary talks
We will get to know each other personally, discuss the topics you have in mind and try to specify these together. Additionally, you will be provided with important information concerning the writing of an exposé.
4. Writing an exposé
You will undertake a detailed literature search and prepare an exposé. The time frame for writing the exposé is six weeks long, after which the thesis ought to be registered (see item 6).
5. Finding a second assessor
In consultation with your supervisor, you will select a second reviewer for your thesis.
6. Discussion, approval and registration
Prof. Gilbert will review the exposé. Once he gives his approval, the thesis can be officially registered with the academic office, and the formal working period will begin.
7. Writing your thesis
Please note our guidelines for writing a final thesis, which you can find in the download section on this site. Any further details regarding mentoring will be discussed directly with your supervisor.
8. Support during the writing period
While you are writing your thesis, your supervisor will assist you with any questions or problems.
9. Handing in the paper
The completed thesis must be submitted to the academic office on time. Please check the submission procedures on the office's website.
