About us
At the Professorship for Empirical Economic Research (Prof. Dr. Ulrich Fritsche and team) our teaching and research focus on the application of quantitative methods to problems in economics and other social science disciplines. In terms of methodology, the focus lies on classical econometric techniques (general regression analysis, time series analysis), statistical learning methods and methods in the field of computer-assisted text analysis. The fields of application for these methods are wide-ranging but generally have a macroeconomic focus. These include the formation of expectations among forecasters and households, with a focus on the business cycle and inflation, as well as the measurement and analysis of the role of narratives in the formation of expectations. In our teaching we cover a broad spectrum of courses in the field of methodology but also offer courses on macroeconomic topics such as inflation and financial market crises, as well as courses relating to the history of economic thought.
