Max Weinig studied Economics and Sociology (AWG) in the master’s program at the University of Hamburg. Previously, he completed the bachelor’s program in Economics, Law and Social Sciences with a focus on economics at the University of Erfurt. He worked as a research and student assistant at the professorship of Prof. Dr. Ulrich Fritsche as well as for the Gambling Research Working Group at the University of Hamburg and at the Max Weber College at the University of Erfurt. In his master’s thesis, he investigated the significance of narratives for the formation of expectations. For this, he analyzed a large news corpus for inflation narratives using text-as-data methods. As part of a student research project, he investigated the process of creating macroeconomic forecasts during the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, his dissertation research focuses on issues related to expectation formation and the influence of economic narratives. Since 2023, he has been researching inflation narratives in large text corpora as part of the project “Inflation narratives in large text corpora”. The project is funded as a Cross-Disciplinary Lab in cooperation with the Semantic Systems Research Group (Prof. Dr. Ricardo Usbeck) of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Hamburg with funds from the Excellence Initiative.
