Amendment of admission requirements
Please note that the admission criteria for the master's program Politics, Economics and Philosophy are subject to the approval of the underlying statutes by the Faculty Council and the Executive University Board of the University of Hamburg.
Before you apply, make sure you meet the following requirements for the MSc in Politics, Economics and Philosophy at the University of Hamburg.
1. University degree
You must have completed a first university degree (e.g., Bachelor degree or equivalent of at least 180 ECTS credits) in one of the following fields:
- Political Science
- Economics
- Philosophy
You must show that at least 60% or its ECTS equivalent (i.e., 108 ECTS out of 180 ECTS) of your first degree corresponds to one of the fields listed above.
If your first degree is in PPE (or a similar program), please consult the FAQ under "Questions Regarding Admissions Requirements".
2. Applying before graduation
You may apply even if you have not yet received your degree certificate.
In this case, you must submit your Transcript of Records by the application deadline (31 March of each year).
If you are admitted, you must submit your degree certificate by the end of the first semester of your master's program.
3. Graduate Records Examination (GRE) General Test
You must submit the GRE General Test scores with the following minimum results:
- Combined score for Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning: at least 300 points, and
- Analytical Writing: at least 3.5 points.
⚠️ GRE General Test: mandatory for all applicants
- Submit your GRE results via the STiNE application portal by 31 March.
- GRE results also confirm your English language skills.
- No (sufficient) GRE results = no admission.
