Amendment of admission requirements
Please note that the admission and selection criteria for the master's program Politics, Economics and Philosophy are subject to the approval of the underlying statutes by the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences and the Executive University Board of the University of Hamburg.
Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for the selection procedure to the M.Sc. Program in Politics, Economics and Philosophy at the University of Hamburg.
University degree
Applicants must have completed a first university degree (e.g., Bachelor degree or equivalent of at least 180 ECTS) in one of the following fields of study:
- Political Science
- Economics
- Philosophy
Applicants must demonstrate that at least 60% or its ECTS equivalent (i.e., 108 ECTS out of 180 ECTS) of their first university degree is in one of the above-named fields of study. Applicants with a first degree in PPE (or similar) should consult the FAQs (see Questions Regarding Admissions Requirements).
You can apply even if you have not yet received your degree certificate. Please then submit your Transcript of Records by the application deadline on 31. March of each year. If you are admitted to the program, you must submit your degree certificate by the end of the first semester of your master's program.
Graduate Records Examination (GRE) General Test with a score of
- at least 151 points in the test category Verbal Reasoning,
- at least 155 points in the test category Quantitative Reasoning, and
- at least 3.5 points in the test category Analytical Writing.
The test results must be submitted by the application deadline. The GRE test results also demonstrate the English language skills required for the program.
