This year, the Hans Frankenthal Prize once again honors initiatives that work courageously and creatively to combat right-wing extremism. In 2025, two projects will be honored that draw attention to current and historical forms of right-wing threats in very different ways and show ways of resistance:
The editors of the “Report Recht gegen Rechts” (RgR): They strengthen critical public opinion and motivate lawyers, students, and civil society initiatives to actively defend fundamental democratic values and take legal action against authoritarian tendencies.
Roman Knižka & the wind quintet OPUS 45 with “Deutschland, siehst du das nicht?” (Germany, don't you see?): With an artistic and musical exploration of the downfall of the Weimar Republic (1929–1933), they remind us of the fragility of democracy—a powerful warning in light of the current successes of right-wing parties.
The award ceremony honors both projects with laudatory speeches and presentations; OPUS 45 provides the musical accompaniment.
