On the occasion of the EGOS Colloquium 2020, Stephanie Schrage (Universität Hamburg) and Andreas Rasche (Copenhagen Business School) were given the Max Boisot Award for their paper titled ”Inter-organizational paradox management: How National Business Systems influence the spillover of paradox management practices in global value chains“.
The paper analyzes the tensions organizations in a global value chain between Germany and China have to face in trying to raise their production workers’ wages to the level of a “living wage”. The paper explores the subjects of the German and Chinese institutional contexts, the imbalance of power along the global value chain, difficulties in connection with social audit standards, and the paradox between living wage implementation and financial success.
Since 2013, the “EGOS Annual Award in Honor of Max Boisot and his Work” is granted to studies analyzing knowledge management in complex contexts, China’s business system and big science.
