Organizational Sociology
At the Chair of Sociology, with its focus on economic and organizational sociology, our research addresses organisational sociological issues from an institutionalist perspective (actor-centred institutionalism, neo-institutionalism). The focus is on aspects of governance and self-organisation in organisations (governance principles, organisational models, organisational logics of digital platforms), the mechanisms of action coordination in contradictory institutional contexts (incomplementarities, institutional matching) and the analysis of organisational change despite institutional persistence (e.g. overcoming path dependency).
External-funded projects connected to organizational sociology:
- Aktiengesellschaften zwischen gesellschaftlicher Verantwortung und Profitorientierung (DFG, 2014-2017)
- Befragung des gesamten akademischen Personals der Universität Hamburg (WIPR, 2014)
- Organisations- und Schnittstellenmanagement von Bildungsübergängen (Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg, 2013)
- Matching von Innovationsfähigkeit und nachhaltigen Organisationsmodellen (BMBF/ESF, 2009-2013)
The teaching aims to present organizational sociology in its entirety by comparing different theories. In addition to introductory seminars, in-depth reading seminars, practice-oriented simulations and research seminars are offered.
