The DFG-funded research unit "Big structural change" (RU BISC) is based on interdisciplinary cooperation and combines research projects from the fields of economics, political science, and sociology. Under the direction of spokesperson Prof. Dr. Dr. Lydia Mechtenberg, researchers from six different universities in three different countries cooperate together in the research unit: the unit consist of faculties from Berlin (HU), Cairo (CU), Hamburg (HHU & HSU), Mainz (JGU), and Vienna (WU). Beyond cooperation across universities and disciplines, a central intention of the research unit is to advance and promote early-stage research careers. Therefore, the group also employs their own doctoral students and post-docs and allows them to move between different participating universities in the project.
