Professor Kesternich’s research focuses on health, labour and behavioural economics.
Professor Kesternich organises the 'Labour and Applied Economics' research seminar together with Professor Miriam Beblo (Department of Socioeconomics), Professor Biliana Yontcheva (Department of Economics) and Dr Luise Görges (Department of Economics). Research areas
Our research in applied microeconomics addresses key challenges facing modern welfare states, including demographic change, labour supply shortages and the financial sustainability of social security systems. The research agenda comprises two strands: health and long-term care markets and the impact of social preferences, norms and non-monetary incentives on labour markets. Part of this research has been consolidated under the ERC Consolidator Grant 'MORETHANMONEY: Nonwage attributes, gender, and the future of work'. As most developed countries are heading toward a period of labour shortages due to aging populations, these issues are highly relevant to policymaking.
