Research Focus
With its active contextual and methodologically diverse research, the Department of Economics is closely involved in the research priorities of the UHH and the WISO Faculty. Key highlights include participation in the Cluster of Excellence “Climate, Climatic Change and Society” (CLICCS), DFG-funded Graduate Research Training Groups (RTG) such as “Collective Decision-Making” and “Managerial and Economic Dimensions of Health Care Quality,” and the DFG research unit “Big Structural Change".
Research Seminars
Research seminars foster academic exchange and interdisciplinary research. They provide a central forum for discussing current research with renowned researchers from different perspectives, and they create room for innovative approaches in fields such as economics, the environment, health, law and quantitative analysis.
Research Centers involving the Department of Economics
The Department of Economics is closely involved in the research centers of the University of Hamburg and the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences. This includes participation in the “Earth and Society Research Hub” (ESRAH) and the “Hamburg Center for Health Economics” (HCHE).

The Department of Economics offers opportunities for doctoral studies (PhD) and for habilitation. Early-career researchers are assigned to individual professorships.
