The research profile of Prof. Dr. iur. Kai-Oliver Knops and his team includes civil law, German and European commercial and consumer law, especially banking and capital market law, reorganization and restructuring law, insurance law, economic constitutional law and methodology.
The teaching and research focuses are directly related to practice; among other things, expert opinions are prepared for the preparation of legal and economic decisions for ministries, private individuals or court proceedings. The internationally oriented chair has extensive contacts within the European area, which is why the problems and issues of business law are studied both in the national and international legal area.
Special attention is paid to research on consumer protection in Germany, the European Union and Eastern Europe. In addition, Prof. Dr. Kai-Oliver Knops advocates consumer protection as a member of the advisory board of the "Finanzmarktwächter".
