‘HERA - A ring walk through Bahrenfeld’
When: Sun, 14.09.2025 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM
Where: Albert-Einstein-Ring, 22761 Hamburg
We follow the structure of the disused HERA particle accelerator 10-20 metres below us through Hamburg Bahrenfeld. The walk as part of the ‘&Bahrenfeld’ project connects two parallel worlds: The everyday world of Bahrenfeld on the surface and the world of particle physics underground. Starting from the Science City Campus, we move through housing estates, allotments and parks, past the Volkspark stadium, trees, bushes and meadows. All places in Bahrenfeld that we rediscover on the trail of the HERA research infrastructure.
Inspired by Lucius Burckhardt's promenadology, it is not about entertainment or consumption, but about experiencing and exploring our environment together and the possibility of discovering unexpected points of contact between science and the neighbourhood. Here and there there will be small perceptual inputs, otherwise we will be walking together and have the opportunity to exchange ideas and chat. The walk is an invitation to people from Bahrenfeld, employees of the university and DESY and anyone who enjoys urban walking.
The route is about 10 kilometres long. We will be walking for about 4 hours with breaks. An earlier exit is possible at any time.
Sun 14 Sept // Start 12:00 // (starting point to follow, probably on the Science City Campus or at Ebertplatz).
Important: Please bring enough clothes and drinks for the weather. Snacks will be provided for on the way.
Participation is free of charge, but places are limited. Registration is therefore requested at: ko-kreativ@uni-hamburg.de
