Short Bio
Dr. Riccarda Flemmer studied political science, sociology and psychology (Magister Artium) at the RWTH University of Aachen and at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Her doctorate in International Relations was completed at the University of Hamburg in 2019. The title of her dissertation is ‘The Contested Meaning of Prior Consultation and FPIC - lndigenous Grassroots and the Politics of Translating Rights in Struggles over Resources in the Peruvian Amazon’.
During her doctoral studies she worked as a researcher in the project ‘Consultation, Participation and Conflict Transformation. A Comparative Study on Resource Extraction in Bolivia and Peru’ (Link, 2013-2015) funded by the German Foundation for Peace Research (DSF) and in the project of the German Federal Ministry for Education (BMBF) ‘The Americas as Space of Entanglements’ (Link, 2016-2017). She was a member of the doctoral program of the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA) Hamburg as well as an active member of the GIGA's research programs ‘Accountability and Participation’ and ‘Peace and Security’. Since April 2020, she has been working as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Political Science, especially Global Governance, at the University of Hamburg. Her publications on participatory conflict transformation, contested legal norms, human rights and socio-ecological conflicts have appeared in World Development, Third World Quarterly, the Journal of Latin American Studies and the Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology, among others.
