Varieties of Agency in Climate Change: Non-Human and Human Agents of Climate Litigation and Contestation (2024)
Background of the project
Professor Wiener’s research will address climate agency especially practices of climate litigation and challenges arising from interactions between human and non-human legal persons. It draws on climate law and governance thereby contributing to the Centre for Climate Engagement, the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, the Faculty of Law and the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) communities at Cambridge.

Visiting Fellowship: Prof. Antje Wiener PhD will visit the University of Cambridge, the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law and Hughes Hall as part of the DAAD Visitor Programme in Fall 2024. She will be hosted by Dr Markus Gehring, Associate Professor, Faculty of Law. In the context of her visit, a collaborative and interdisciplinary workshop on 4-5 November 2024 in Cambridge in the week before COP29 is planned. Its purpose is to exchange research and views from different academic disciplines and between Germany and the United Kingdom and the world.
